Today's Meeting, and Summer Room Change

As we wrap up Herlock, let's talk about what we've seen so far. The story is pretty simple: evil invades, atypical hero emerges to fight it off, and an angst filled teenager gets caught up in it all and may even have the key to end it. It's also clear now that the show is set up like a Japanese Horror, the elements are definitely there. Then there is the ridiculousness inspired by the scifi anime of old: zombies playing chicken with a moving spacecraft, people surviving in space with just a visor, the lack of explosive decompression, and maneuvers such as moving slightly to the left. So, what's left? Save the Universe, Save the World! Keep it Atypical, Space Otaku President Will-Craig Here are some facts: - While the OAV has different enemies then the original series, it is in fact a retelling as Daiba (teenage angst) was in both, and joined the crew after his father had been killed by the invaders. - Leiji Matsumoto created the Harlock Manga, and directed Interstella 5555. He was not a part of the Harlock anime. - Rintaro was the director of the original anime, and Endless Odyssey. For the rest of the summer we will be meeting in 111 DODGE HALL.

Attention True Believers, This week we will be starting our two summer series. Mondays we will be watching BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, the story of Koyuki, a teenager who discovers the world of Japanese Rock. If you love Rock, Japanese or otherwise, this is a must watch cultural experience. That not tickle your interest? Then on Thursdays we have Captain Harlock, a simple space pirate who fought for the Earth under his own flag in the year 2977. A retelling of the classic 70s Anime, this series hearkens back to an older style of storytelling. If you like Sci-fi, Pirates, or just people being bad-ass, then this is the show for you. Plans have changed, and today Inouye Sensei will be coming to visit us. She will be bringing Tekkon Kinkreet, so we will hold off Densha until next Monday! Hope to see you all there!

This Thursday it looks like Inouye Sensei will be coming to visit us. G Gundam will be held off until next week as we'll be watching something she'll be bringing in. We should know what we are watching before we send Thursday's email. I hope you all can make it!

End of the Year

So, its the end of the year, and its about to go down! So here is how we will roll with this: December 7th is the last official meeting. Since most of you will be around after that (due to finals and coop and all) we will have 3 more meetings after that, but are unofficial (Dec 11, Dec 14, Dec 18). Because they are unofficial, they may meet in a different place, a different time, or may not meet altogether. We will keep you guys posted on the updates! Remember December 7th is the last official meeting of the 2009 year, so if you want to bring some goodies and snacks, we can make it a good one!

The Halloween Aftermath!

Hey all! I hope you had a great time watching Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned (LOL) and for all the winners of our Halloween contest, congrats! I just want to let you all know that the pictures are up on our Calendar/Events page (red box, or first link for those mobile users out there (yes, this site is designed for mobile phone users as well) and images are under the Halloween part). Halloween at NU Anime Club!

Thursday, October 29th 2009 - 6:00pm to 8:30pm will be our in-club Halloween party. Wear your costume for our first annual Halloween costume contest. After all, you all know about cosplay, so bring your best (Tony's Wookie is disqualified). We will be taking a break from our usual series in order to show something really special (and maybe scary too)! So bring some treats (or come pick up some of ours) at our NU Anime Club Halloween Party!
